{ Wall Decals + Recipe + Home Show + Contest } DIY
Phew, what a week!
Things have been super busy around here! In between class I’ve been getting ready for the Comox Fall Home Expo. We’ve got a booth set-up all weekend and we’re going to spread the word about this website of ours. We’re also going to start selling the Virtual Renovations this weekend – we’re really curious to know if others will love them as much as we do. We’re calling them “Reno-Vision” – clever eh? Joe (my husband) will be there as well. His renovations business has been gathering steam over the past 8 months and the home show is a perfect place to showcase the business even more.
Today’s DIY feature goes along with our Home Show display. Are goal is to make our display reflect our website…
Wall Decals are very trendy right now and I think it’s because it’s a economical way to make a big “art” impact in a room. Plus, most of them are removable which means you can change them around whenever you feel the need for new decor. If you want to skip all the hard DIY work, there are two places here in town that I’ve seen fantastic varieties of wall decals: FD & Interiors (bird decal pictured below is from there…) and Firefly : New Beginnings. I love that we have options for an adult space, as well as for playful child’s decor.
For our home show booth, we’re making our own Tree Decal out of various paper. The idea was inspired by this image (minus the animals…)
Materials you will need:
Paper – lots of it! In different patterns and colours. Recycled is best.
Washable Non-Toxic Glue Sticks – A 3-pack of large ones should be enough.
Step One:
Cut out a heck-of-a-lotta leaves. Maybe 100 or so…
Step Two:
Cut out your tree trunk and branches. If you google “tree decals” in google images there is a lot of inspiration for getting the shape just right… (thinner seems to be better).
Step Three:
Using the glue sticks, first glue on your tree trunk and branches to the wall. Next, glue on the leaves! (kids will love to help with this!)
TO REMOVE DECAL – The glue sticks actually dry pretty hard. I’ve never actually removed the glue from the wall completely. However, the glue does say “washable” so my guess is that I didn’t use enough water to soften the glue. I’m not promising you anything – so of you glue this decal to your wall you do so at your own risk.
We’ll post an UPDATE on this blog tomorrow with a photo of how our tree decal looks at our booth. The best way to see it of course would be to come to the home show! We’d love to see you!
