A Note from Bethany Regarding Site Affiliates/Sponsors

The Comox Valley is home to some wonderful individuals who work hard to bring quality goods and services to the Home Design and Construction industry.

This site is built on the concept of providing an online destination where home owners can learn about these businesses and make the best choices possible for their home projects.

The process of identifying the framework for paid sponsorship on this website has been challenging. My desire is to highlight, through editorial, photos, and graphic design, the exceptional businesses that I come in contact with. However, Canadian journalism standards stress that in-house editorial featuring business that pay for advertising is unethical.

Blogging is no longer a new idea. It is still a young idea however, and therefore the parameters that separate ethical blogging and non-ethical blogging are not always clear for readers, or bloggers themselves. In the US, laws have been introduced which now require bloggers to disclose when they have been paid to write something, or when they have been given something for free in return for providing a positive review. It seems that the “blog” concept is growing up.

I do not want to withhold good information from those who are visiting this website – but I also do not want to put myself in a position where my integrity is being questioned. Therefore, I have decided to introduce other businesses to the blog as a service to readers, and will to do without accepting any advertising dollars. This is not to say that I do not receive something in return, as many of these businesses believe in what Joe and I are doing in business as well. We are thankful when they refer their customers to our business, however we do not demand that they do so.

In the coming months, you will begin to see their logos and information. I have hand-selected these businesses myself.

When and if I begin to accept advertising dollars from businesses, I will make sure that my readers know.
